Whoa! 'HNY' sweeps Stardust awards, Big B named international icon


Amitabh Bachchan was named as the International Icon of the Year while Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Happy New Year' walked away with maximum trophies at the 14th Stardust awards in Mumbai.
Bachchan was presented with the award by actress Raveena Tandon at the star-studded ceremony last evening. Veteran actress Asha Parekh, known for films like 'Teesri Manzil' and 'Kati Patang', received the Lifetime Achievement award.



'Happy New Year' won maximum awards including Film of the Year, Dream Director for Farah Khan, Star of The Year - Male and Best Actor - Thriller for Shah Rukh Khan and Star of The Year - Female for Deepika Padukone.

In the category of achievers of the year, Shahid Kapoor got the Best Actor (drama) award for his performance in Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Haider', while Priyanka Chopra received the Best Actress (drama) for her role in and as 'Mary Kom'. Rani Mukerji was named as the Best Actress (Thriller) for her role in 'Mardaani'.
Vikas Bahl and Imtiaz Ali shared the best director trophy for their work in 'Queen' and 'Highway'. 'Queen' was also named the best film while its leading lady Kangna Ranaut won the best actress trophy. The best actor title went to Randeep Hooda for 'Highway'.

Alia Bhatt received the 'Best Superstar of Tomorrow' honour while Tiger Shroff, son of veteran actor Jackie Shroff, was named the 'Best Superstar of Tomorrow' for his debut film 'Heropanti'.

Sonam Kapoor won the Best Actress - Romance/Comedy for 'Khoobsurat' while Varun Dhawan won the Best Actor Award in the same category for his role in 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania'
Supporting honours went to Govinda for 'Kill Dil/Happy Ending' and Tabu for 'Haider'.

Anupam Kher was honoured with the Pride of the year award, while 'Kick' star Jacqueline Fernandes bagged the style Diva trophy.

A host of stars including Shah Rukh, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Parineeti Chopra performed at the stage.
