Old Age home Project, Morals and Ideas.

P
Old age homes are meant for senior citizens who suffer with a problem in staying with their children at home or are destitute. These homes are for older people who have nowhere to go and no one to depend on… These homes create a friendly and family like atmosphere for the elderly people where they can share their joys and sorrows and live happily. Old Age Homes are pretty developed in United States,

United Kingdom and there is recent development seen in the construction of Old Age Homes in India.

These old age homes have special medical facilities for senior citizens such as mobile health care

systems, ambulances, nurses and provision of well-balanced meals. So basically, it is a housing project

for senior citizens of that country.

Old Age Homes have two main categories:

1. Homes providing free Accomodation

2. Homes working on a payment basis

Apart from food, shelter and medical amenities, old age homes also provide yoga classes to senior

citizens. Old age homes also provide access to telephones and other forms of communication so that

residents may keep in touch with their loved ones. Some old age homes have day care centres. These

centres only take care of senior citizens during the day.

Location of Old Age Homes

 Studying the location of the structure is the most important factor. This will help us determine the
climatic conditions of the place. Orientation of a building with respect to climatic conditions of the

place.

 Location of an Old Age Home is of prime importance.

 It could be a part of the urban setting or it could be in a rural area. It depends on the kind of people

that are going to stay in it.

 Some people prefer idyllic areas while some would like to live in close proximity to the quick facilities

of the city.

 An Old Age Home should be preferably located in a calm, pollution free environment with all the

basic necessities that are required for any comfortable housing project.

Design Concept for Old Age Homes

 Design of Old Age Homes depends on the social and economic status of the people who are going

to reside in the homes.

 They could be the dormitory type, independent rooms or cottages…

 The rooms should be well-ventilated.

 Designing a ground Floor in an Old Age Home is of utmost importance. Possibly all the basic

facilities in the home should be provided on the ground floor. If this is not possible and if upper floors

have to be built then a sloping ramp has to be provided for facilitating easy passage of wheel chair

and make movement of people with crutches easier.

 The toilets and bathrooms should have rough flooring so that the elders do not slip. Suitable railings

should be provided for support.

 Recreation rooms and rooms for medical care should be built.

Working Staff in the Old Age Homes

 An administrator is must for the homes of the aged who will be responsible for the running of the

home.

 Supporting staff such as clerks, cashier cum accountant, nursing staff, attenders, maids and a cook

are the basic required staff for the efficient running of a old age home.

 A medical officer will be needed to attend to the health needs of the inmates. If the home is very

close to a hospital where emergencies can be treated then, it may be enough to avail the services of

a Doctor, who works there part-time.

 A nutritionist can play an important role by providing special attention to the nutritional requirements

of the residents. At least a part-time nutritionist should be appointed.

 A professionally qualified social worker is an essential member of the team of personnel.

 Wherever possible nursing staff and health care workers trained in Geriatric care should be

appointed.

 There is a need for helpers in the Old Age Homes who will take care of the Old people and help

them move around…

 After figuring out the staff requirements for the Old Age Homes, we can determine the amount of

space required for their offices and construction of quarters where they can stay while on job.

Medical Care Facilities in Old Age Homes

There should be a sterile store room where all medicines and medical accessories that may be needed

for treatment of the residents are to stored as per the advice of a general physician.

 There are certain instruments that are necessary for the medical treatment such as Oxygen

cylinders, suction apparatus and intra-venous sets should be readily available. Drugs should be

replaced periodically, considering their expiry date.

 Transport facilities such as ambulances or any other vehicle that is similarly equipped as an

ambulance should be available in case there is a need to rush them to the hospital for intensive

care.

Recreational Facilities in an Old Age Home

 Provision of recreational facilities is must. Old people also need entertainment so that their mind

does not remain idle. This will help their life become lively and happy and keep them away from any

kind of depressing thoughts.

 Facilities such as small reading area, televisions, video players, newspapers and books should be

provided.

 Not all old people like sedentary lifestyle…Depending on the extent of the physical activity of the

residents other facilities for active sports such as: tennis, table tennis, squash can be provided.

 A small computer room could be provided for accessing the internet which is a must in today’s

world. That will keep the residents mentally active and aware of the world outside…

From our discussion we can conclude some of the most important and basic

Someone said ‘The end of world is our home.’ Definition 1. The boundary between senior and old

age cannot be defined exactly because it shifts according to context and to society. People can be

considered old because of certain changes in their activities or social roles. Examples: people may

be considered old when they become grandparents, or when they begin to do less or different

work—retirement. Most countries have accepted the chronological age of 65 years as a definition of

'elderly' or older person.

. The very concept of an old age home is new to India. An old age home is usually the place, a home

for those old people who have no one to look after them or those who have been thrown out of their

homes by their children. The place is of course like home where the inmates get all the facilities for a

routine living, like food, clothing, and shelter. 4. All these necessities are well looked after but, the

much-needed love, and care of loved ones is of course sadly missing; for, how can outsiders provide

solace? In these homes, it is very interesting and even touching to talk to people whether they are

men or women.

. If, in any home we talk to the inmates, their story would be much the same- turmoil in the family,

disgust against the old and, finally the removal of the elders from the family scene. It is the family

atmosphere, and being among their flesh and blood that, most of the old people miss at the old age

home. 8. They do get their daily needs fulfilled but, from where will the love of the dear ones come?

The stories of almost all the old people are the same and very dismal. 9. It is the breakup of the

system of the joint family and the introduction of a nuclear family that has brought this unhappy

situation enter our society, and the old age homes have had to come up to cater to the needs of the

elderly.

Besides this, since the women have started working out of homes, there is now, no one to look after

the routine needs of the elders at home. Also with the women working out come their attitudes

towards the elders, for, today, the working women do not take the elders as their duty but as useless

appendages in the family. 11. This attitude of the women has also largely contributed to the removal

of elders from families. With this backdrop, the necessity for old age homes was felt, and is being

increasingly felt with the passage of time. The entire spectrum of circumstances has led to this

unhappy need for old age homes

Reasons Why Retirement Homes Are Becoming a Must Today 16. Senior Citizen Homes 17. Most

of us would shudder at the thought of our parents having to live in a retirement home during old age.

But given the modern situation where most children are working away from home, whether abroad or

in another city, the best option and sometimes the only option is to keep the parents in a retirement

home.

Let’s see some of the reasons why retirement homes are becoming imperative today: 1. Children

are working away from home Most children reside outside India or in another city for work purpose

and the ageing parents are left all alone with no one to look after them. A retirement home offers the

opportunity to live as a community giving the feeling of an extended family. 2. Safety is an issue for

senior citizens It has become a common occurrence nowadays of crimes being committed against

senior citizens, as they are easy targets. Living in a retirement home gives protection and security to

them because of constant screening of visitors. Also gadgets like CCTV offering constant

surveillance and video intercom makes sure that it is possible to monitor visitors.

They do not need support of the pole or other subjects but in this time they really need to support of

his sons,…  A lot of these elders have daughters too, and these daughters cannot be 'budhape ka

sahara' because their duties after marriage is considered only towards their husband's parents and

not their own. Many women suffer in silence and in helplessness as they can see their parents suffer

but unable to do anything to change it. Is this not unfair on both the daughters and their parents?

This is also one of the reasons why a girl child is not desired, she can never be of any help to them

in old age. Shouldnt the responsibility of both the parents lie on the couple? Why should this

responsibility be only on the sons & their wives? I have seen many women commenting on the

insensitive nature of sons towards their parents, but can they do anything to their own parents? Did

they not leave them and go away? Why do we as women accept this kind of bias towards us?

1. Now a Days, People Use to Live with his wife & children, But they Left their Parents to Live

Alone/Penniless. But they Forgot their Childhood, at that that time Their Parents, sacrifices a

lot for Him, If This is called Advance Society, Then I don't want to be Advance. They Love his

wife & Child, but they Forgot how much their parents loved him, in their Childhood & make

them Self Dependent.

How to Deal with Parents

You are blessed if living jointly with your aging parents. You make Allah happy by

taking care of your parents. Below are some important tips about how to deal and

care your aging parents. Although you are young but don’t hesitate to take advice

and suggestion from your Mom and Dad on important issues. They’ll respect your

opinion whether they are agreed or not. But it is sure that your parent would be

very happy when you take their suggestion. It is far better to consult with them

before your final decision and not after. It can make them unhappy if you explain

them after your final decision.

Although you give them some of your moments but it is not enough. Spend few

hours in a week, have chat, tea, breakfast etc. All seniors have habit of repeating

their memories. it not proves that they are mentally ill now but they want to make

sure that they can teach you some important lessons from their experiences and

one more reason is that they don’t have now new thing to explain. Listen carefully

if they tell you something again and again.

Life is very busy today but try to cook their favorite food and share with them. Try

to remain optimistic during meal. Seniors usually eat very slowly, try to control

your speed too and finish your meal with them. Youth loves to have dinner outside

of home. If you have a plan to eat your dinner today out then try to tell your parent

earlier and not on time. Most of they time they’ll not go with you because of stairs,

crowded areas or high priced restaurant and lot of other reasons.

Try to share your job and business troubles and achievements with them. It’ll

definitely make them happy and they’ll pray for you from heart. Give them your

time if they are ill. Ask about treatment and doctor. Advice your kids also to give

some time if your elderly parents are not well. Spend more time together on special

holidays. Say hello hi to them when going out of home or come back to home. Give

them some money in envelop even though parent are getting pensions and other

benefits. They’ll feel very glad and it also proves that you are taking care of them.

Take your seniors to their friends, family member and relatives or their favorite

places. Do this once in a month if you are very busy. Bring their favorite fruit,

sweets, cakes and other foods, book or pets that they like most especially when

you visit any other city or country. Install some call bell in your parent’s room so

they can call you when needed. You should also arrange some other things of their

need such as tv, torch, table lamp and telephone connection etc.
