Delhi and women safety have become a contradiction, of late. Time and again were are reminded that Delhi is no more safe for women. In another horrific incident in the national capital, two men dared to attack a women doctor by splashing acid on her face in broad daylight.
The shameful incident was caught on a CCTV camera of that locality. According to the media reports, the incident took place in morning when two bike-borne men threw acid on Dr Amrita Kaur, leaving one side of her face burnt and her right eye severely damaged.
The shambolic incident raises serious questions on the security of women in Delhi and pan-India. A few weeks ago, a young woman was raped by a Uber cab driver Shiv Kumar Yadav and now acid attack in broad daylight, and now this another similar incident has emerged. The Delhi police needs to take necessary actions against the culprits and try to tame such episodes which are on the rise at an alarming rate. Moreover, the police authorities must introspect the loopholes in the existing laggard security measures for women in Delhi.
In the recorded CCTV footage, two men were seen on bike and as soon as they reached Amrita’s two-wheeler, the pillion rider threw acid on her face. The unknown bikers also snatched Amrita’s bag and ran away.
