Earthquake: 4.0 quake strikes 30 miles south of Lake Tahoe



A shallow magnitude 4.0 earthquake was reported Thursday morning 13 miles from Markleeville, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 12:21 a.m. Pacific time at a depth of 8.1 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 18 miles from Alpine Village, 18 miles from Dardanelle, 32 miles from South Lake Tahoe and 99 miles from Sacramento.

In the past ten days, there have been no earthquakes magnitude 3.0 and greater centered nearby.
