The 35-year-old Colombian singer and her boyfriend Gerard Pique, a football player for Barcelona, have named the new arrival Milan Pique Mebarak.
The couple, who have been together for more than two years, announced the happy news on Shakira’s website.
'We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22 at 9:36 p.m., in Barcelona, Spain,' the post read.
'The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification. Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.'
Milan weighed 6lbs 6oz and mother and child are both in 'excellent health' according to a statement from the hospital.
Earlier in the day, the star sent a tweet to fans as she went into labour.
'I’d like to ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life,' she wrote.
Shakira announced the pregnancy last September and held a virtual baby shower earlier this month where they asked fans to send donations to underprivileged babies.
